The Project
The San Diego Parks Foundation strives to connect all San Diegans to high-quality parks through philanthropic and volunteer contributions to the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department, and to support the City’s mission to build a world-class inclusive park system that strengthens communities and provides equitable access to recreational opportunities.
Grant funding supported the planting of 24 trees at two underserved community parks in Southeast San Diego, Mountain View and Willie Henderson Parks, with the goal of helping create a safe, inviting, and sustainable urban forest. Research has shown that increased tree canopy has a wide variety of benefits for communities, including improving residents’ physical and mental health, reducing stress, and creating cooling effects. The tree planting is also in line with the City's Climate Action Plan which includes a goal of increasing the urban tree canopy.
