The Project

The Associated Students (A.S.) of San Diego State University is dedicated to enhancing the college experience by creating innovative, student-centered spaces that promote accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement. Parking Structure 12 is a key facility designed to provide safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible parking solutions for the SDSU campus. As a student-directed organization, A.S. ensures that campus infrastructure supports the evolving needs of students while integrating forward-thinking sustainability initiatives.

In addition to improving campus accessibility, A.S. is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. With financing by BQuest Foundation and by partnering with the SunForAll Program, A.S. installed a 648 kW solar system on top of the Parking Structure 12. This solar array provides ample shade for parked vehicles, reducing the daytime heat island effect while also improving energy efficiency. The structure incorporates efficient safety lighting to enhance visibility at night while minimizing light pollution. The savings generated from this renewable energy system will be reinvested into additional energy efficiency and decarbonization projects, as well as professional development opportunities for student leaders.

By integrating sustainability into campus infrastructure, A.S. ensures that the Parking Structure 12 serves as both a functional and environmentally conscious space. With its commitment to student engagement, leadership development, and sustainability, the Associated Students Parking Structure 12 continues to enhance the SDSU experience, fostering a campus environment that prioritizes innovation, safety, and responsible stewardship of resources.
