The Project
Sophia’s Hearth, located in Keene, New Hampshire, has been a guiding light for families and educators since 1999. Originally founded at Antioch University, Sophia’s Hearth grew from a simple wish: to help parents nurture a centered, joyful, and warm family life. Today, it has become a world-recognized leader in early childhood education, offering three core programs: Early Childhood Care and Education for children from birth to three, a Teacher Education Program supporting educators at all stages of their careers, and a Family Program that helps parents better understand their children’s developmental needs.
With financing from the BQuest Foundation and in collaboration with the SunForAll Program, Sophia’s Hearth has taken a major step toward sustainability by installing a 40.38 kW solar system. This clean energy system is expected to save Sophia's Hearth more than $290,400 over its lifetime, significantly reducing electricity costs and allowing more of the organization’s resources to directly support children, families, and teachers.
What They Are Saying
"We just love having such a visible solar system on our building. We’re on one of the busiest streets in Keene and it’s easy to spot our panels while driving by. It’s part of Sophia’s Hearth’s mission to be environmental stewards and be a model in the community.”
- Paula Sousa, Director of Early Childhood Care and Education, Sophia’s Hearth
