The Project

United Way of San Diego works to ensure that all children, youth, individuals, and families have the support they need to achieve educational success and financial security. They leverage the strength of their partners countywide — schools, businesses, policymakers, nonprofits, and government — to scale their impact to address deeply rooted disparities in education and economic mobility.

As a building owner that houses nonprofit organizations doing work across the county, United Way of San Diego is committed to its ongoing sustainability efforts. The solar system helped to implement new energy-efficient systems, ultimately limiting their carbon footprint. This initiative showcases United Way of San Diego's commitment to sustainability, demonstrating how businesses can actively participate in mitigating climate change while also saving on operational costs in the long run. By lowering their energy use and associated costs, they can divert more resources to their life-changing economic mobility and educational programs and continue to transform the lives of even more San Diegans county-wide.

United Way of San Diego's roof-mounted solar energy system provides the organization with a reliable source of clean energy and also significantly reduces their carbon footprint. By partnering with the SunForAll Program, which included financing from BQuest Foundation, United Way of San Diego was able to install 91.2 kW roof-mounted system.

What They Are Saying

"We are expected to offset our electricity expense by an estimated $36,000 per year. This cost savings will allow United Way of San Diego County to keep costs affordable for our nonprofit tenants and to direct our resources to ensure all children, youth, individuals and families have the support they need to achieve educational success and financial security. The solar installation contributes to our organization’s environmental and sustainability goals because it allows us to reduce our carbon footprint and contributes to our net zero energy goals.”
