Even more area communities pass climate action plans
San Diego’s Climate Action Campaign is busy as usual with all things local climate policy! CAC was integral to recently helping Orange County activists push the city of Irvine to unanimously vote for the creation of a Climate Action Plan (CAP). Imperial Beach followed just a few weeks later, passing their own CAP that includes a commitment to 100% clean energy.
CAC has also been lobbying for major transit changes in San Diego, from big investments in public transit to the creation of protected bike lanes along 30th Street in North Park, while also holding community planning forums and hosting speakers about the San Diego Green New Deal.
San Diego passes Community Choice Energy
Just a few weeks ago, the San Diego city council voted to approve the creation of community choice energy, which was critical to reaching San Diego’s commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2035. San Diego, Chula Vista, Encinitas, La Mesa, and Imperial Beach will now partner to purchase electricity for their cities, allowing more choice about how that energy is produced!
We’ll be attending the upcoming Community Choice Energy Forum, co-hosted by CAC and the City of San Diego on Friday, October 4th. See you there!
