The Project

San Diego Second Chance's mission is to disrupt the incarceration cycle by helping at-risk youth and justice-involved people achieve empowered self-sufficiency. Through a combination of education, encouragement, specialized training, and additional support, San Diego Second Chance helps people overcome barriers in housing, behavioral health, substance abuse, life skills, and employment.

Those who are supported by San Diego Second Chance are surrounded by tremendous challenges that include meeting basic needs such as housing and healthcare, as well as the stigma associated with previous incarceration. Other barriers limit access to opportunities and inhibit self-sufficiency. San Diego Second Chance breaks the cycle of incarceration, helping people ready to change find true independence, learn healthier ways of living, and become self-sufficient and contributing members of society.

The savings generated by going solar will reduce operating costs for the San Diego Second Chance Sober-Living Housing Program and will offer the opportunity for this vital program to be more sustainable, providing safety and stability for residents. The new solar systems are not just incredibly efficient, they are also sleek and attractive, adding to rather than taking away from the aesthetics of each home. Their modern look increases the pride that residents have in their homes and contributes to their motivation to earn a second chance in the community.

San Diego Second Chance was looking for ways to reduce operating expenses and wanted to install solar. By partnering with SunForAll Solar Fund, a partnership between BQuest Foundation and CollectiveSun that seeks to help more nonprofit organizations benefit from solar energy, San Diego Second Chance was able to install a 30.4 kW solar system.

What They Are Saying

“Second Chance equips individuals in need with the tools they need to stand on their own two feet — making our communities safer and stronger. By lowering the operational costs for our Sober-Living Transitional Housing Program, partnering with Collective Sun to go solar has made this vital program more sustainable and increased our ability to provide the tools and resources for justice-involved individuals to forge a new path for their lives.”
